The JLL IC400 is an excellent indoor bike if you are looking for something with a solid build quality and a smooth ride.
JLL are no strangers to fitness equipment. Like most of their products, the JLL IC400 offers an incredible quality product with little compromise. The biggest selling point of the JLL IC400 is its belt driven motion and its enormous 20kg flywheel. It comes with an onboard computer and built-in pulse monitor. Additionally, you can adjust the seat and handlebar in all directions and a red and black colour scheme to give it a sleek and modern look.
Unique Feature: 20kg Flywheel
The first thing we should mention is that the IC400 ELITE has a heavy 20kg flywheel. It is smooth as silk when you are starting off. As you build momentum the flywheel provides a tremendous resistance, giving you a very intense workout. Don’t worry though because you can change the difficulty by adjusting the dial, a standard feature in most spin bikes.
The on-board computer has a large display but functionality is very basic: time, speed, distance, calories, odometer and pulse. There aren’t any pre-set programs which isn’t a deal breaker considering it’s a spin bike rather than an exercise bike.
The JLL IC400 ELITE does require assembly. It weighs over 40kg once assembled. We would recommend finding the perfect spot in your house before assembling otherwise you may have problems trying to move it. The pedals use a 3-piece crank system, very strong and can hold up someone up to 150kg doing stand sprint. You can also fully adjust the position of the saddle and handle bar in all 4 directions, making it more ergonomically inclusive and versatile to different size people. And of course because it is designed to simulate real riding, the saddle is tough and uncomfortable as hell! If you aren’t used to cycling and sitting on a saddle then you could buy a soft seat, like the Premier Gel Big Bum Bike Saddle to go with it so you aren’t discouraged by its discomfort.
Due to the 20kg flywheel the bike is quite noisy when you start using it. After about 15 minutes when the flywheel warms up it does get much quieter and smoother.
- Very sturdy and fantastic build quality – It literally does not wobble
- 20 kg flywheel – The added weight really makes a difference when peddling
- Great workout intensity
- Onboard computer very basic
Is this the right bike for me?
What makes it stand out from its competitors is the 20kg flywheel making a massive difference when you are peddling. Combine that with its sturdiness it really does provide a wonderful ride and there isn’t much to fault it. You can over look the lack of pre-set programs as the build quality is so impressive and it doesn’t affect your workout at all.
If you are looking for something with a high intensity work out then the JLL IC400 is a great choice. If you fancy something cheaper but still offers a similar performance, you might want to check out its little brother, the JLL IC300. Alternatively, the JLL S300 treadmill is a great addition to pair up with your JLL IC400 at your gym.
